Simple and Fun Family Traditions

October 4, 2017

Your Kids Will Never Forget Your Family Traditions

In today’s fast-paced way of life, meaningful and consistent family time may fall by the wayside, if not vanish completely. As mamas, we want our babies to be able to look back on their childhood with joy, recalling specific family traditions we shared. I think it’s these little things that help us capture our children’s hearts, keeping them close throughout childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Here are a few of ours:

Friday Family Fun

On Fridays (especially during the school year), we do something fun together as a family. This may be a family game night (Family Feud is one of our many favorites!), a movie night with popcorn and chocolate chips to snack on, a trip to the high school football game, a family football or basketball game, or any other fun adventure we can get ourselves into. It matters not what we do, but that we are spending time together as a family. This is something we all look forward to! Setting aside a specific night each week makes us more intentional about family time.  VIEW POST

Meal Planning With Minimal Effort

Meal Planning Made Simple

Ahhhh, meal planning. It’s the best worst responsibility. It’s not especially fun, easy, or quick. It takes time, thought, and serious planning ahead. But, it’s a necessary evil. When a meal plan is done for the week (or two weeks, or month if you’re really ambitious…which I’m not), it’s easier to grocery shop, you save money, and you don’t have to think twice about what’s for breakfast, lunch, or dinner every day! (Cue the HALLELUJAH choir.) This helps to avoid unhealthy, last-minute convenience foods, and it feels so good to have done! Here’s the most manageable way I’ve found to tackle this tedious task for our family.VIEW POST

Our Favorite Family Devotional Book

October 4, 2017

Family Devotional Resources

Finding a family devotional to study with our kids has long been a priority. By no means can I say we read them every day, but we try to sit down and take in God’s word together a few times a week. My husband has led us in fun devotionals he’s found online, and we have purchased several great devotional books for kids over the years.

While reading The Lifegiving Home, by Sally and Sarah Clarkson, I noticed the mother and daughter reference their “Family Ways” more than once. They referenced the published family devotional based upon their system of family devotions, Our 24 Family Ways, written by Clay Clarkson.  I was instantly attracted to the practicality and essential teachings put forth in their Family Ways and decided to order this devotional for our family to dive into together. Boy, am I glad I did! VIEW POST
